Mecklenburg County Budget: What Changed for Nonprofits
By Groundwater Solutions
County budget documents are not written for normal people. So here is the short version of what changed and what it means for organizations like ours — and for the families we serve.
Human services funding
Allocations to community-based human services held roughly steady, but the application process moved to a consolidated portal with a single annual deadline. Smaller organizations without grant staff will feel that most.
Housing stability
There is new money for eviction-prevention rapid response, administered through partner agencies rather than direct-to-resident. If you are facing a housing emergency, come through a partner — including us — rather than applying alone.
What we are watching
Transit access to job centers remains the open question. We will keep reporting as decisions land.
